Dishwasher Technician – Why Is the Dishwasher Not Filling with Water?

Does the dishwasher turn on but fail to fill with water? The problem may be related to the water supply valve, inlet hose, water inlet valve, filter, door lock, water level sensor, AquaStop system, or electronic control board. Learn the main causes.

Dishwasher Technician – Why Is the Dishwasher Not Filling with Water?

If the dishwasher does not fill with water after the program starts, the washing cycle cannot begin properly. The appliance may turn on, make sounds, or display an error code after some time. The cause may range from a simple water supply problem to a fault in one of the internal components.

First, check whether the water supply valve connected to the dishwasher is fully open. If the valve is closed or the water pressure is too low, the appliance may not be able to receive the required amount of water.

A bent, compressed, or blocked water inlet hose can also prevent water from entering the dishwasher. It is useful to check whether the hose is being squeezed behind the appliance by furniture or by the dishwasher itself.

The filter located at the dishwasher's water inlet can become clogged with dirt, rust, and other deposits over time. When the filter is blocked, water flow decreases, and in some cases the dishwasher may stop filling with water completely.

A faulty water inlet valve is one of the common reasons why a dishwasher does not fill with water. When the valve receives a signal from the electronic control system, it opens and allows water to enter the appliance. If the valve fails, the water supply may stop.

If the dishwasher door is not fully closed or the door lock does not work correctly, the safety system may prevent the program from starting and stop the appliance from filling with water. Therefore, it is important to check that the door closes properly.

If the door lock sensor is faulty, the electronic system may detect the door as open even when it is physically closed. In this case, the dishwasher may not begin filling with water.

Some dishwashers are equipped with an AquaStop system or another type of leak protection system. If a leak is detected, the system may automatically shut off the water supply. Water collecting in the bottom of the appliance or a fault in the AquaStop system may prevent the dishwasher from filling with water.

If the water level sensor or pressure switch is not working correctly, the electronic control system may incorrectly detect that there is already enough water inside the appliance. As a result, the water inlet valve may not receive the command to open.

At the beginning of a program, the dishwasher may first attempt to drain water remaining from the previous cycle. If there is a problem with the drainage system or drain pump, the appliance may remain at this stage and fail to proceed to the water-filling stage.

A fault in the electronic control board can also prevent the correct signal from being sent to the water inlet valve and other components. Technical diagnostics may be required to accurately identify this type of problem.

Loose connections, oxidation, or burnt contacts in the electrical wiring or valve connections can prevent the water inlet system from working. Checking these components may require electrical measurements.

If the dishwasher displays an error code, its meaning should be checked according to the brand and model of the appliance. Different models may use different error codes for problems related to the water supply, inlet valve, AquaStop system, or sensors.

The water inlet hose and supply valve can be visually inspected, but disassembling the internal electrical components without proper experience is not recommended. If there is a water leak, burning smell, or the circuit breaker trips, the appliance should no longer be used until it has been inspected.

If the dishwasher is not filling with water, it is recommended to contact a professional dishwasher technician. The technician can check the water supply, inlet hose, filter, water inlet valve, door lock, AquaStop system, water level sensor, wiring, and electronic control board to determine the cause of the fault.
